In fact, in those cars you're actually making your car more efficient when you flick the heater on. Most petrol and diesel vehicles run their heaters off the engine's coolant, so the cabin is warmed up from what is essentially waste heat. Staying warm is an incredibly energy-intensive activity, but it's not something a regular combustion-engined car has to worry about. Once the set temp is reached the energy consumption tapers off, but it's rarely less than 1kW. For reference, when cruising at 60km/h on level ground the Ioniq EV's drive motor burns about 12-13kW, so the heater's consumption could be up to half of the energy that's needed to move the vehicle itself. If the climate control has to heat up a 10-degree cabin up to a more liveable 22 degrees, the car's heater can draw 6kW - or more - to do so. For many commuters, the ability to blast the heater all the way to work is a welcome respite, but doing so in the Ioniq just gives you something else to worry about - diminished range. Melbourne in winter is melancholy at the best of times, what with brutally cold mornings and frequent rain doing their best to dampen your spirits. The running costs of EVs are already well-known to be cheaper than combustion-powered equivalents, but armed with such data I can properly quantify for you, dear reader, precisely how cheap it is to run an electric car. Update 4 - 7 May, 2019Īlright, so I promised I’d get a little more scientific with the numbers and measure precisely how much energy the Ioniq was actually consuming. It's a lot less transparent with an EV though, as those costs are built into your electricity bill. At least with a petrol car the costs are quite visible, because they're literally right in front of you on the bowser every time you fill up. Recent political chatter around EVs has got me wondering though - just how much is this car costing me to run? It's hard to tell. Other than that, though, the Ioniq Electric has been pleasingly trouble-free. The remedy for this (at least until I can take it back to Hyundai) is to drive around with the front passenger seatbelt buckled in at all times which, aside from looking a bit weird, also makes me feel like I'm some kind of Uber driver for ghosts. No, it's not because a heavier-than-normal bag has been placed upon the cushion either, the sensor in the seat cushion that detects a passenger's weight must have somehow become permanently closed. The first fault has appeared - the passenger seat belt warning has taken it upon itself to start bonging away even when the front left seat is vacant, which you can no doubt imagine took me a little while to figure out what the source of that noise was. Why wait for hydrogen when the future is already here? Update 3 - 27 April, 2019 It’s a negligible amount, so I guess my fear is unfounded.īut here’s the thing: while hydrogen cars are still very much in their infancy with many technological and infrastructural hurdles ahead of them, electric cars have already arrived. Six grams in a car that would likely carry around five or six kilograms of hydrogen on board. Which would mean that over five days you’d lose… just six grams of hydrogen to the atmosphere. The actual rate of hydrogen leakage varies, of course, but as an example Ford was targeting 0.05 grams of hydrogen per hour as an ‘acceptable’ rate of tank permeation. Not by a dangerous, explosion-starting amount, mind you, but with hydrogen molecules able to literally slip between the molecules of most other materials, it’s a difficult gas to contain. However, the length of time it would spend sitting idle did get me thinking – would a hydrogen car be problematic on a such a trip?įor those that don’t know, hydrogen cars have a bit of an engineering issue to overcome: the tanks leak. The Ioniq’s battery is more than big enough to get me there and back. But with a full charge and a home-to-airport distance of roughly 40km, the lack of charging infrastructure wasn’t a problem on my visit. On the ocean side, with a spectacular location and view, Paradise is both a restaurant (cuisine doesn't match the quality of the location) and shore diving and snorkeling spot. The Cayman Craft Market is the next attraction (where you may find a local hand-made souvenir) and, hidden inside on a large office building, there is an off the beaten track cafe/bar, South West Collective, know by savvy cruisers for excellent coffee, quick bites, and free Wi-Fi. In the northern part of Harbor Drive, where the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal is located, you will find a few shops and right in front of the exit gate a street - Front Street - that will take you (around 100 yards/meters) right to Heroes Square. The city expands to the East but most attractions are close to the Harbor Drive and the two blocks inland. George Town is such a small place that the cruise visitor will be able to see it all at leisure. Which begs interesting questions: how on earth will Segway know that you are on a cruise if you don't tell them? What jurisdiction applies if you are 'caught'? Is it a crime? Says who? Exploring George Town Segway, for example, doesn't allow Carnival Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise passengers to book directly online and refers clients to the onboard Shore Excursions Manager. In fact, it became so easy for cruise passengers to just walk in or book excursions online that some tour operators do not allow cruise passengers to book tours. This can be a good way to do it in Grand Cayman not only because the island is small, very safe and hospitable to cruise passengers but also because it is so easy to travel around - be it by bus, taxi or car rental. However, many of the attractions offered on these tours/excursions can easily be explored on your own. Some are really a great and convenient way to make the best of your time in port. Like on any cruise port, your ship has a number of excursions aka 'Shorex' available to enjoy a day in Grand Cayman. Most top attractions are served by these public buses costing US$ 2.50 to Turtle Farm, Hell, Pedro Castle or Pirate Cave to the Botanical Gardens ticket is $5.00 and $10.00 to Rum Point. Buses to the Seven Mile Beach depart every 10 to 15 minutes and cost US$ 2.50 per person each way. Although many a cruise traveler may feel uneasy with public buses in the Caribbean, you shouldn't be as these are very safe, very well kept and a great way to travel around in Grand Cayman.īuses are small vans but with air condition, clean, inexpensive and everyone is very friendly - in fact, you will find that many visitors to Grand Cayman use the Public Bus services. The public bus is naturally the most affordable way to explore Grand Cayman. This is arguably the best way to travel around, deserving an additional word about the public bus service in Grand Cayman. To explore Grand Cayman on your own, there are taxis right outside any of the Terminals and a Bus Station within walking distance with services to all main destinations, attractions and most highlights. If tendering to either North or South Terminals, the cruise traveler will literally walk off the tender right into Harbor Drive as the terminal buildings are small and do not have much more than waiting areas with passenger controlling gates.Īll these piers are within walking distance to the main attractions of George Town - Margaritaville, the Museum, all major Shops, and Restaurants. But it can also happen that you will be tendering to any of the other two piers when there are more than a couple of ships in port, which happens very often. use, copy or translate for commercial use, reproduce, adapt, vary or modify any material in any form on the Website and/or Mobile Apps without the prior written consent of PICA Group. Baked penne with sausage – Ricotta and mozzarella are tossed with penne in a sausage and tomato sauce and baked until crispy.Baked rigatoni with meat sauce – Rigatoni baked with a hearty meat sauce, mozzarella, and ricotta.Which is your favorite way to enjoy baked pasta? As with any creamy baked pasta, we strongly recommend letting the baked macaroni and cheese sit for about 5 minutes after removing from the oven to allow it to firm up just a bit.īaked pasta dishes are definitely some of the most comforting foods and below we’ve got a few of our favorites. Baking it uncovered will dry it out a bit yielding a firmer mac and cheese, which is still great! We recommend covering the macaroni and cheese while baking as it will lock in moisture. You can make extra and serve on the side for those who’d like to add a little more. The panko and smoked paprika give this the perfect smoky crunch. The topping is entirely optional, however, you are encouraged to not skip it because it really is that good. That will help keep the mac and cheese a bit more creamy. American cheese is processed cheese that contains sodium citrate. These are all good melting cheeses and would be suitable for mac n cheese. If you can’t find Fontina, or prefer something lighter in flavor, opt for gruyere, American, Havarti, or Monterey Jack. The Fontina is a pungent and wonderfully flavorful cheese that we use in some of our favorite recipes, like chicken valdostana and chicken sorrentino. This recipe uses Fontina, Parmigiano Reggiano, and sharp cheddar. Top tips for ultra-creamy baked macaroni and cheese If you like it a bit firmer feel free to bake uncovered the whole time. Enjoy! Note: Covering during the baking process prevents the mac and cheese from drying out. Let the baked mac and cheese set for 5 minutes before serving. To brown the breadcrumbs, broil for the last 1-2 minutes but watch carefully. Bake for 10 minutes then remove the cover and bake for 5-7 more minutes or until bubbly.

My mouse is a Logitech MX Master 3 and it is running the latest software, this issue has only been noticed since recent PS updates though so I don't think it is mouse related. I have recorded a video showing what i mean to help give a better visual of what I'm on about: If I click out of the PS window so PS is no longer in-focus, and then hover the mouse over the PS window and then zoom (WIndows by default will allow scrolling or zooming on whatever window app window the mouse is hovered over) then the exact same zooming actions are smooth. But if I zoom in closer so parts of the image fall outside of the canvas, then zooming is laggy, like as if there's a CPU spike laggy but there actually is not any CPU spike. When I have an image (regardless of resolution etc) open and the PS window is active/in-focus, I can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel smoothly as long as the image is fully visible in the PS window canvas. Bit of a strange one and I've only noticed this since recent updates. |
